Two remote Kedars of Shiva, Kalpeshwar and Rudranath, through Uttarakhand's untouched Garhwal Himalayas. Village stays in Urgam Valley and Anusuya, an 18 km high-altitude trek, and temple aartis far from the usual pilgrim trail. Part of the Panch Kedar journey, guided by a host with years on the road.
The journey begins at 6 AM with the drive from Rishikesh toward Kalpeshwar, roughly 6 hours on the road. Along the way, breakfast and lunch are enjoyed en route, with stops at Dev Prayag and Dhari Devi Temple to mark the start of this sacred circuit. On reaching Urgam Valley, a remote village that trades convenience for peace, the group visits Kalpeshwar Temple for the evening aarti before settling into a triple or quad-sharing stay, with a warm local dinner closing the day.
The day starts early with a 4 AM wake-up call. A short 1 km walk or drive leads to Kalpeshwar Temple for the 6 AM aarti and darshan, followed by Yog Dhyan Badri. After breakfast and a light lunch, the group drives roughly 3 hours to Mandal Village, where extra luggage is left safely in the cloak room. From there, a 1.5 to 2 hour scenic jungle trek of about 4 km, accompanied by two additional guides, brings everyone to Anusuya. Once bags are dropped, a short 20-minute hike leads to Atri Muni Waterfall before returning to the stay for dinner and stories by the fire
An early 3 AM start sets the tone for one of the trip's most demanding days. The trek begins at 4 AM along the original route to Rudranath, an 18 km path that's steep in places but never short on breathtaking views, with breakfast and lunch taken along the way. The group reaches Rudranath by around 5 PM, settles into the stay, and witnesses the evening aarti of Rudranath Ji before dinner and rest.
Wake-up is at 5 AM, followed by the morning darshan of Rudranath Ji at 6 AM. After breakfast, the group treks back down toward Anusuya, pausing for lunch midway. Once back, there's time for chai and freshening up before a visit to Anusuya Mata Temple to offer thanks for a safe Rudranath trek. Dinner and well-earned sleep close the day.
The group wakes at 6 AM and begins the trek down at 7 AM, reaching Mandal by 9 AM to collect bags from the locker and rest briefly. From here, the drive back to Rishikesh takes roughly 6 hours, with lunch along the way. The trip concludes here, carrying the blessings of Kalpeshwar and Rudranath, along with memories from a raw, remote stretch of the Himalayas.
